Conservative Party of Canada Eglinton Lawrence EDA

February 15th, 2012 by IWD Canada

The Conservative Party of Canada Eglinton Lawrence EDA approached IWD to develop a new website for their riding. They wanted a website to promote aspects of their Riding, current news, and also generate interest in volunteering and joining their Party. We worked closely with the EDA to develop a website that worked for them.

IWD provided web design and development services for this project and has been retained for on-going maintenance and support.

Minister Oda launches the Canadian network for maternal, newborn and child health

November 23rd, 2011 by IWD Canada

IWD had the great opportunity to work on a really cool project that has a real chance of bring change to Canada and the rest of the world.

Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

Here is a recently released Press Release:
Ottawa, Ontario – Today, the Minister of International Cooperation, the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, formally launched the Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health during a round table meeting with Canadian health stakeholders in Ottawa.

The Network – made up of maternal, newborn and child health experts, medical practitioners and civil society organizations aims to support Canada’s efforts to improve maternal, newborn and child health by increasing coordination and collaboration among partners.

“I am encouraged by the Network’s commitment to coordinate and work with our partners in delivering health, disease prevention and nutrition services in developing countries,” said Minister Oda. “The Network’s focus on results and improved coordination will ensure our government’s efforts and our Muskoka Initiative to improve the health of women and children are making a difference in developing countries.”

“The Network is an example of Canadian experts coming together to leverage our experience and resources in the interest of saving more women and children from preventable deaths,” said Network co-Chair Rosemary McCarney. “One of our goals is to agree to a common set of metrics and a mechanism to track the results of our collective efforts. Our vision is of a rich knowledge base that truly makes a difference in improving mothers’ chances of survival and the fate of their newborn children.”

During the meeting, the Network launched its bilingual website (www.can-mnch.ca) – funded by CIDA – which, in addition to increasing information sharing among Canadian stakeholders, seeks to inform international partners of maternal, newborn and child health work underway globally. The website will also demonstrate results being achieved to save or improve the lives of mothers and children in support of Canada’s Muskoka Initiative.

“The Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health illustrates the commitment of Canadian organizations to collaborate and share expertise in order to provide effective interventions for women’s and children’s health in vulnerable communities around the world.” said Network co-Chair, Dr. Dorothy Shaw.

For more information on Canada’s contributions to maternal, newborn and child health visit www.CIDA.gc.ca/MNCH

Backgrounder

The Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) was established as a result of the November 2010 Ministerial Roundtable on the Muskoka Initiative, hosted by the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation.

Co-chaired by Dr. Dorothy Shaw, of the BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, and Rosemary McCarney, President and CEO of Plan Canada, the Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health aims to:

provide a coordinating role for Canada’s MNCH programme activities that will support data collection, shared metrics and other tools that align with country-level work through monitoring and reporting on health indicators recommended by the UN Commission on Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health. The tools will allow Canadian Network stakeholders, such as those groups undertaking projects under the Muskoka Initiative Partnership Program, to compare and assess progress made to save the lives of mothers and children;
identify existing and new opportunities across the MNCH continuum that will better integrate health prevention, promotion and healthcare in developing countries;
provide MNCH strategic and policy advice to CIDA and the Government of Canada; and
disseminate new evidence and knowledge regarding innovations that can enhance progress in MNCH.

To support its objectives, the Network created a website (www.can-mnch.ca) – funded by CIDA – which will improve information sharing among Canadian stakeholders and inform international partners of maternal, newborn and child health work underway in Canada and in developing countries.

Introducing Kirsten Jones

July 8th, 2011 by IWD Canada

Kirsten Jones, a Juno-nominated Canadian artist, approached IWD about relaunching her website. The idea was to match her debut album, be interactive, and use it to help build her fan base. Not only were we excited to take on the project but her music also became a team favourite. Even the most hardcore of R&B/Rap listeners would be caught playing her music in the background. We were responsible for the website design and developed with Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube integration.

The website came out well and we all wish Kirsten amazing success in her exploding music career. For more information please check out her website at www.kirstenjones.com.

Testament to our Community Works Program

June 24th, 2011 by IWD Canada

When we launched our Community Works program in 2008 we wanted to help Charities and Non-Profits use their website to create more exposure, encourage donations, and enable them to better engage the community. Working with groups such as Paws Canada, Lend to End, and Literacy for Leadership we were able to create and support a website that would allow them to do so.

However, none was clearer than Outside Looking In 4th Annual Performance on June 23 at the St. Lawrence Art Centre. This amazing show was a testament to the hard work and dedication of OLI’s team and the teens they worked with. The teens spoke about having more confidence, better attendance and grades at school, and a closer community because of this organization. It was a great feeling to know that the website helped OLI in their efforts to increase exposure and resources needed to support these programs.

IWD has already agreed to support the organization in the coming years and we look forward to see what OLI will bring next year.

Outside Looking In 4th Annual Performance is almost here!

June 3rd, 2011 by IWD Canada

Come join us for Outside Looking In 4th Annual Performance on June 22, 2011. It’s going to be a great show and we can’t wait to check them out! When OLI approached us to sponsor the website we jumped at the opportunity to support such a great cause. IWD provided in-kind sponsorship for their web design, development, support and maintenance requirements.

Outside Looking In 4th Annual Performance

About OLI
Outside Looking In (OLI) was founded by Tracee Smith in September 2007 as a sole proprietorship. After their first successful show in May 2008, charitable status was sought in July 2008, and OLI became an official charitable organization in February 2009. (Charitable Status #81551 7099 RR 0001). Outside Looking In was created to give Indigenous youth an opportunity to express themselves through the arts while giving Canadians the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous peoples beyond what they see and read in the media through OLI’s annual multi-media performance in downtown Toronto. This experience and performance is about give and take. Canadians will have an opportunity to look inside Indigenous communities, while the Indigenous youth will get to see beyond theirs.

What They Do
We begin our process with our chosen Indigenous communities and their education staff in the beginning of each academic year. Before we start engaging in artistic activities, OLI meets with the school and community leadership to ensure everyone understands and can prepare for the busy year ahead. With the main art discipline being dance, every other week a professional dance teacher will work with the youth of the community for 2-3 days bi-weekly for a period of 6-7 months. In between these visits, the teachers and volunteer community members rehearse with the youth to ensure they improve day by day. The main goal the youth are striving for is to maintain in good academic standing and attending all of their OLI rehearsals in order to travel to downtown Toronto from their home communities to perform in front of sold-out audiences at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, Bluma Appel Theatre. These star youth performers get their hair and make-up done by professional artists, rehearse daily with other professional performers, sign autographs for our audience, and conduct media interviews. They also live with the other youth from other communities who made it in the OLI program as well. Youth also engage in photography, videography, painting, journal writing and choreography that all contribute to the final performances in Toronto.
